Analytical Essay – Guided Paragraph

Everyone has been making excellent progress on their individual paragraphs – each student going back over and over again to amend and add to their work.

Today’s lesson involved us all coming back into focus on the mechanism of effective writing. One of the most prevalent issues was where students would write “I think Shakespeare used this device to…”. We agreed that simply by deleting the “I think” from analytical writing, it immediately becomes more confident and authoritative.

To follow is the whiteboard capture of the writing frame we used today, for those wishing to continue working on their own paragraphs over the weekend. (The students had to copy the blue and then write their own sentences to follow. The red is instructions and the green is an example of what I might have said)
